5 Nollywood performers passed away in 2022
One of life’s certainties is death. Every human possesses a cloak of death that is intended to be worn at a particular time, according to a proverbial African proverb. This year, Nollywood suffered a loss as a result of the departure of several brilliant performers owing to personal tragedies. This article will provide details regarding the deaths of five Nollywood actors that passed away this year.
Williams, a well-known senior actor, passed away on February 28, 2022 as a result of illness. Age-wise, he was 81.
Williams was the first actor to perform on Zuma Rock in Abuja, a 1,200-foot-high rock, where he read his late friend Maman Vatsa’s poem “The bird that sings in the rain.”
Additionally, he served as Nollywood’s first president, the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria. He was a member of the cast of Village Headmaster, the first soap opera produced in Nigeria. Williams also appeared in “The Witch Doctor,” the first home video ever produced in Nigeria.
Williams taught theatre arts at the University of Lagos, Lagos State University, and the University of Calabar in Cross Rivers state until he passed away.
On March 1st, 2022, Akin-Taylor aka Oluweri Magbojo’s family confirmed her passing; the reason for death, however, was not disclosed. She gained the nickname “Oluweri Magbojo” when she played the role of Oluweri in the film Oluweri Magbojo because she was well recognized for her dramatic makeup and head tie. At the time of her passing, she was 59 years old.
The Nollywood business was rocked on March 23 by the passing of Takor Veronica, a rising star in the industry. She was discovered dead in a hotel room in Benue, North Central Nigeria, a few days after her birthday, although the cause of death is unknown.
On March 12, 2022, the actress celebrated her birthday. A few days later, she mysteriously passed away in a hotel room in Makurdi, Benue State’s Nyinma neighborhood.
Her family, friends, and coworkers posted condolences on social media in response to the actress’s loss.
K. M. Adetokunbo (Dejo Tunfulu)
Kunle Mac Adetokunbo passed away on April 1st, 2022. He was a well-known Yoruba actor known for playing Dejo Tunfulu, and he passed away at the age of 49. He is well-known for his comic performances; in his films, he played a clown and made his admirers laugh and grin.
At a young age, Mac-Adetokunbo made his acting debut in the television show “Theatre Omode,” which launched his career. He played the character of Dejo in his first film, “Aje ni Iya mi,” which gave him his nickname till his passing.
Ada Ameh, a legendary comedian and actress from Nigeria, died on July 17, 2022, at the age of 48. Her death’s cause has not yet been made public. She reportedly passed away at the hospital run by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), nevertheless. She apparently passed out while visiting a home of an employee of an oil business. When they got to the hospital, she was already dead. After losing her daughter Aladi Godgift two years earlier and also losing several of her family members, the actress was apparently also dealing with mental health concerns.
