American actor Winston Duke is of Tobagonian descent. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, he is well known for playing the role of M’Baku.
Winston Duke’s life story
In Argyle, Saint Paul, Trinidad, on November 15, 1986, Duke was born. At the age of nine, he moved to the United States with his mother, Cora Pantin, and sister.
He graduated in 2004 from Brighton High School in Rochester, New York. He also attended the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he majored in drama and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. Moreover, he attended Yale School of Drama, where he graduated in 2013 with a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in acting.
Career
Duke started out as an actor in plays for the Portland Stage Company and later the Yale Repertory Theatre. Person of Interest gave him his first significant acting role. Duke was pals with several Yale students when he was there.Then, the two co-starred in Black Panther and Us alongside fellow performer Lupita Nyong’o.
Duke returned to Trinidad and Tobago in 2012 to participate in the stage performance of An Echo in the Bone. He played M’Baku in the Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers Endgame, and all subsequent Black Panther: Wakanda Forever films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Duke was given a role in Jordan Peele’s hugely successful horror movie Us, which came out in 2019. Later in 2019, he agreed to star in the Apple TV+ drama series Swagger, but due to an unfortunate accident he sustained on the set in February 2020, O’Shea Jackson Jr. was brought in to fill the role. He appeared in the Netflix suspense film Spenser Confidential in March 2020. In the audio drama podcast Batman Unburied, Duke also portrayed Bruce Wayne/Batman.
