Bio of Idowu Philips

Idowu Philips was born in Lagos State on October 16, 1942, but her parents are from southwest Nigeria’s Odogbolu Ijebu. Prophet Jacob Adebanjo Ifemade of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church was her father. Philips claimed that being the only female child of her parents made her resilient.

She received her primary education at the African Methodist School and her secondary education at the Anglican Modern School. She later attended a nursing school.

Philips spent a considerable amount of time working as a nurse in various general hospitals throughout Nigeria. She rarely took the stage, but she was given the chance because her late husband Augustine Ayanfemi Phillips had a close working relationship with Sir Herbert Ogunde, a pioneer in the Nigerian film industry. On the advice of Sir Herbert Ogunde, she left the healthcare industry after 20 years as a nurse and transitioned into acting full-time two years after the death of her husband in 1984. She did this to continue her husband’s legacy and earn more money to support her family.

Aje ni Iya Mi and Eru were the first two films in which she appeared. The name of her late husband’s band was Osumare Theatre, which translates to rainbow. She stated:
