Howell Stouten Wayans, a supermarket manager, and Elvira Alethia, a singer and social worker, were the parents of Damon Kyle Wayans when he was born in Harlem, New York City, on September 4, 1960. In 1982, Wayans began performing stand-up comedy. He played a tiny part in Eddie Murphy’s 1984 movie Beverly Hills Cop. From 1985 to 1986, he appeared as a performer on Saturday Night Live. He kept playing his sketch character when the Wayans family launched the Fox Television program In Living Color in 1990. Wayans created Waynehead, a cartoon for The WB in 1996 that featured a poor boy with a club foot and was somewhat based on his own experiences growing up in a large family. However, due to low viewership, the show was cancelled after just one season. Wayans served as the executive producer of the FOX drama 413 Hope St. from 1997 to 1998. The ABC comedy sitcom included Wayans.
