Who is Dwayne Johnson?
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was born in 1972 into a professional wrestling family. His injury ended his college football career, so he stepped into the ring with WWE. As “The Rock,” he feuded with famous wrestler Steve Austin and won his WWE Heavyweight Title on multiple occasions. Johnson then turned his wrestling fame into his film career, appearing in projects such as The Mummy His Returns (2001) and Tooth His Fairy (2010). Later projects included the HBO series Ballers, appearing in the franchises The Fast and the Furious and Jumanji, and voicing the demigod Maui in Moana.
Johnson was born May 2, 1972 in Hayward, California. The grandson of professional wrestler Peter “High Chief” Fanene Maivia and son of wrestler Rocky Johnson, young Johnson grew up watching his father perform in the ring. Johnson had no plans to follow in his footsteps, playing college football at the University of Miami and showing promise with his size and athleticism until injuries slowed him down.
