Charlize Theron was born on 7 August 1975 in Benoni, Transvaal Province now known as Gauteng Province in 1994 in South Africa to Charles and Gerda Theron, both road builders. She comes from an Afrikaner family and her ancestry includes Dutch as well as French and German. His French ancestors were the first Huguenots in South Africa. Second Boer War military leader Daniel Theron was his great-uncle. Theron grew up on his parents’ farm in Benoni, a suburb of Johannesburg. Theron’s father, Charles, was an alcoholic, abusing his wife and children whenever he was affected. On June 21, 1991, his father as usual threatened his family by shooting them, his mother pulled out a gun and shot her husband, killing Charles Theron. However, the shooting was considered a legitimate act of self-defence, and Gerda Theron was not charged.

Theron went to Putfontein Primary School for primary education and as a teenager she enrolled in boarding school, where she began her studies at the National School of the Arts in Johannesburg. She attended Joffrey Ballet School in New York until she injured her knee.
