Trevor Noah Biography

Trevor Noah is a South African comedian, television presenter, actor and political commentator. Noah is the host of one of America’s most popular shows, The Daily Show, a satirical news program on Comedy Central.

Biography of Trevor Noah

Trevor Noah was born on 20 February 1984 in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa, to a father Robert, of Swiss-German descent, and a mother, Patricia Nombuyiselo Noah, from Xhosa.

The comedian has always talked about his youth under the racist law that banned relations between whites and blacks. Noah and his mother were classified as black people, so they lived separately from their father. Since interracial marriage was illegal at the time, Noah’s mother raised him in the black community of Soweto.

Noah’s mother, Patricia Nombuyiselo, married Ngisaveni Abel Shingange in 1992; The two have two sons, Andrew and Isaac. Noah’s new stepfather abused Trevor and his mother, and the couple legally divorced in 1996.

Noah attended Maryvale College, a private Catholic primary and secondary school in Johannesburg.

Trevor Noah’s career

Noah’s career began in 2002 in his hometown, South Africa, when he landed a role in an episode of the popular soap opera Isidingo. He then hosted his show Noah’s Ark on YFM, Gutang’s main youth radio station. Noah left his radio show and acting career to focus on comedy and he became a very good comedian. He has performed with big names in the South African comedy industry such as David Kau, Kagiso Lediga, Riaad Moosa, Darren Simpson, Marc Lottering, Barry Hilton and Nik Rabinowitz, international comedians such as Paul Rodriguez, Carl Barron, Dan Ilic and Paul Zerdin, and opened for American comedian Gabriel Iglesias in November 2007 and Canadian comedian Russell Peters during his tour of South Africa.

In addition to his reputation as a great comedian, Noah is also a notable TV presenter. He hosted the educational program Run the Adventure on SABC 2 from (2004 to 2006) and several other major shows and landmark events in South Africa.

A year later, he became the first South African comedian to appear on The Tonight Show; and then in 2013, he also became the first person to appear on the Late Show with David Letterman. Noah was the subject of the 2012 documentary You Laugh But It’s True. That same year, he starred in the one-man comedy Trevor Noah:
The Racist, based on his earlier work specifically titled South Africa That’s Racist. In September 2012, Noah was the Roastmaster in the South African-American comedy Central Roast by South African singer Steve Hofmeyr. In 2013, he performed the comedy special Trevor Noah:
