President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that Nigeria is among four of the 54 African countries that print their currencies locally.

On Wednesday, November 23, during the release of the new Naira notes redesigned by the Central Bank of Nigeria, Buhari stated that it is a source of pride for Nigeria that it does not print its currencies abroad, as many African countries do.

He stated;
“While many Nigerians may not realize it, only four of the 54 African countries produce their own currency, and Nigeria is one of them.” Furthermore, the bulk of African countries print their currencies abroad and import them in the same way that we import other things.
“It is with great joy that I reveal that these redesigned currency are made domestically in Nigeria by our Security Printing and Minting PLC.”
